Description
The feijoa (Feijoa sellowiana, synonym: Acca sellowiana) or pineapple guava is a plant in the myrtle family. It is an evergreen shrub or tree up to 7 m high with a light gray bark and young twigs that are white hairy. The underside of the leaf is silvery hairy.
The fruits are ovoid or pear-shaped, pale green or yellow-green. The flesh is white with a translucent center, grainy and juicy. It tastes sweet and sour and smells like pineapple. The fruit contains twenty to forty or sometimes more than a hundred small, oblong seeds.
