The Citrus latifolia, better known as the Tahiti lime or Persian lime, is a popular, thornless shrub loved for its large, juicy, and seedless fruits. Unlike the common lime, this variety is slightly more resistant to cooler temperatures, though it must still be treated as a container plant in our climate. The plant prefers a sunny, warm, and sheltered spot and enjoys being outdoors on a terrace during summer. Keep the root ball slightly moist, but avoid “wet feet” to prevent root rot. Provide specific citrus fertilizer regularly during the growing season. The Citrus latifolia is not hardy. It tolerates temperatures down to approximately -3°C to -5°C for very short periods, but frost damage occurs quickly. Move the plant indoors to a bright, cool space between 5°C and 10°C as soon as temperatures approach freezing.
