Yucca gigantea is found in Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and eastern Mexico
. The phylum resembles an elephant’s foot, and is therefore better known as Yucca elephantipes.

The flower (izote) is the national flower of El Salvador.
